
PITAS: A 66-year-old woman was killed by a crocodile in Sungai Bengkoka, Kg Sinasak Batu, near here, on Monday.
The incident was witnessed by the woman’s nine-year-old granddaughter who could only watch in horror.
Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Zairolnizal Ishak said initial findings showed the incident happened at 10am when the 66-year-old woman went down to the river to repair a water pump, with her granddaughter tagging along.
He said the public notified police about the crocodile attack.
Villagers managed to come to the victim’s aid and rushed her to the Pitas Hospital. The victim sustained severe head and knee injuries and was pronounced dead at 1.20pm.
Witness recalled seeing the elderly fetching water in the river while fixing the water pump. Moments later, the witness heard screams and the water started splashing.
The witness saw the crocodile attacking the victim who managed to escape and was rushed to the Pitas Hospital.
