RANAU: Rescuers were prompted to act fast after a local suffered leg injury while climbing down from Mount Kinabalu last Saturday.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the incident happened at 1.36pm in Km 3, near Pondok Lowi.
He said the 26-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur suddenly suffered a complication while descending the mountain after conquering it that morning.
“The Ranau BBP control room received an emergency call from the Ranau PBB Auxiliary Fire Officer Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) team informing that a climber was suffering from thigh muscle spasm.
“We rushed a team of rescuers led by Operations Officer PB Neil Thompson to the location situated about a kilometre from the rescuers’ post.
“The team provided initial treatment and brought the victim down using a Robinson Stretcher to Timpohon Gate. The victim was then taken by an EMRS for further treatment and the operation ended at 4.10pm,” he said.
Ridwan said the man became the second for April 2022 and 24th victim of injuries on Mount Kinabalu this year.
In January, eight climbers suffered various injuries while climbing Mount Kinabalu. In February, there were 10 reported injuries and in March, four reported injuries.
