Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh cautioned against rushing into believing that the new Indonesian capital, Nusantara, will see a spin-off boom in Sabah and Sarawak, saying there is every possibility it will benefit economically from both states, instead.
“Hence, it is very important for Sabah leaders not to give false hope to Sabahans but to talk honestly and factually,” he said, in a statement.
Congratulating Indonesian leaders for their far-sighted decision to move the capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan, he said this historical decision follows many countries that also moved their capital, including Brazil and Malaysia.
