Manchester United academy chief Nick Cox has penned an open letter to supporters who attended the FA Youth Cup final victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Cox wrote:

"To everyone at Old Trafford last night,

"As head of Academy, I have a duty to support the development of young players and in doing so ensure that we create amazing experiences that enrich their lives.

"At last night's FA Youth Cup final, you all played a huge part in creating the most amazing experience of all for these players, and for that you should be very proud.

"It is fair to say that the 'record' attendance, passion and atmosphere inside Old Trafford last night will stay with this group forever and stand every single one of our players in great stead for the remainder of their careers.

"It was a truly magical night and we have you to thank for that.

"You have had a genuine impact on youth development with such an incredible display of support. By being part of last night's crowd, you have contributed to preparing our young players for what might lie ahead of them as they continue to strive to fulfil their dream of playing senior football.

"Your attendance also reminded everyone of the importance of youth to the culture of Manchester and this great football club.

"For some of our players, last night will be the first of many times that they will have the privilege of playing in front of a packed and roaring Old Trafford crowd. For others, it may well be the height of their careers and possibly the best night of their lives.

"We owe a lot to those in attendance for generating such a special opportunity for them.

We consider the Academy to be family, one that people never leave regardless of where they go in life. The same can certainly be said of the United fanbase.

"We expect our players to act as guardians of the Manchester United culture, spirit and values. To act with integrity and respect. All of these qualities were on display last night at Old Trafford, both on the pitch and in the stands.

"The Academy and our loyal supporters remain the lifeblood of Manchester United.

Cox celebrates our FA Youth Cup success with Under-18s lead coach Travis Binnion.

Ultimately, it is you, the fans who cheered the boys on for the whole game, that gave them the platform to win the FA Youth Cup, creating more history together for this incredible club.

"The whole of the Academy will be forever grateful.

"Thank you for your dedication, support and care for our young players,

"Nick Cox"
