Sir Jim Ratcliffe insists he hasn't attempted to buy Manchester United because the Glazers do not want to sell.

The British multi-billionaire, who is a boyhood United supporter, has been trying to buy Chelsea through his company, Ineos, in recent weeks.

Ineos director Tom Crotty revealed on Wednesday that their bid had been rejected, but Ratcliffe will not switch his attention to the Red Devils.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Ratcliffe explained: "You know, I have a split allegiance, effectively, really.

"When I was in London for many many years, Chelsea I could go and watch, it was quite difficult to go and watch United.

"Yes, I mean, I can understand that (the calls for him to buy United) but Manchester United is not for sale."

Supporters have become increasingly disgruntled with the Glazers after another trophy-less season at Old Trafford.

A section of fans planned a mass Old Trafford walkout during Monday's clash with Brentford, although they did not follow through with the threat.
