Muhyiddin urges cooperation between all coalitions, including Barisan

BUKIT MERTAJAM – Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has echoed calls for political coalitions like Pakatan Harapan (PH) to work together – including working together with Barisan Nasional (BN) – to bring about political stability in the next general election.

Muhyiddin said it was time for all political parties to make “sacrifices” and set aside political differences to reset the nation.

“The current situation in the country is not good and we must have a way to address this problem in a big context, among them is through political stability.

“Political parties no matter who, BN, PH, or Perikatan Nasional (PN), we must find a way together. There must be sacrifices.

“If we can work together, it will be better. It is not easy, but that is one way to solve the problem,” he told a press conference after attending the Penang Gerakan open house today.

Muhyiddin, yesterday, reportedly said the ball is in PH court if it is open to working with Bersatu ahead of the general election, in what appeared to be an invitation to the opposition coalition for an alliance.

He said that while no formal negotiations have taken place between the two political entities on the possibility of electoral cooperation, party leaders should give serious thought to the matter in order to dethrone Umno.

Muhyiddin added that despite wanting to work with BN, he personally does not want to see the kleptocratic group return to full power and form the government.

If no political party obtains an absolute majority, the Pagoh MP said, the confidence and supply agreement is one of the solutions to form a stable government.

“This issue is big. It is appropriate that all parties who are interested and think in the interest of the country, sit together to form a stable and trustworthy government”.

On April 24, Muhyiddin had said his party is ready to cooperate with any political outfit to ensure a straight fight with BN, and that discussions are underway to offer a win-win formula.

PKR also appears to be open to cooperation with non-PH parties, with its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail among those to have previously said to support such a move.

However, other components of PH have previously rejected the idea of rekindling the relationship with Bersatu, which they see as traitorous and untrustworthy, with PAS also objecting to any such alliance. – The Vibes, May 21, 2022
