Tottenham are ready to sign permanently Cristian Romero.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Spurs will splash £40million to tie Romero down to a four-year deal.

The North Londoners' managing director of football Fabio Paratici will speed up the process as he sees the centre-back as a "key player".

The Argentina international arrived last summer on loan from Atalanta with the option to buy.

It is understood that there was a five-year contract already agreed with the 24-year-old.

Romano tweeted: "Tottenham will activate £40m obligation to buy clause in the coming days for Cristian Romero.

"Fabio Paratici wanted him as key player and Romero will be part of the project - he has already signed until June 2026."
