Kota Kinabalu: A 71-year-old Sarawakian pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a 15-year-old Filipino.
Bujet Anak Otek made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Ummu Khaltom Abdul Samad, to the amended charge against him, when his case was ordered to be remitted to the Sessions Court after the Court of Appeal (COA) allowed his appeal on Monday.
Bujet is accused of committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder of one Juvinrey Sabado, at 2.20pm on Oct 25, 2017 at the paddy field area in Kg Lobok, Kiulu, Tuaran.
The offence, under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 30 years and liability to a fine, on conviction.
The court set July 20 and 21 for hearing the case and allowed bail of RM15,000 in two local sureties for Bujet as well as to report to Penampang police station every Monday.
Bujet was also reminded by the court to not tamper or communicate with any witness and his passport, if any, to be impounded by the court.
If he breached any of the conditions, his bail will be revoked.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Dacia Jane Romanus appeared for the prosecution while Bujet was represented by counsel Datuk Sri Rakhbir Singh.
