Kota Kinabalu: The first batch of South Koren visitors in over two years since the pandemic started arrived in Kota Kinabalu on a Jin Air flight which landed at the city’s international airport yesterday.
The South Korean airliner, full with 185 people, touched down at 9.30pm and was greeted with the water cannon treatment as was the aviation tradition with an inaugural flight.
Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin was upbeat with the state’s international tourism gradual return since the reopening of borders on April 1.
"We are confident that with the improved Covid-19 situation, South Koreans would want to come here as they did in the past," he was reported as saying.
"We hope that the situation will return to the pre-Covid-19 arrival seen in Sabah. We are also looking forward to receiving tourists from other destinations.”
Jafry also said that AirAsia will restart its international flights from Manila to Kota Kinabalu tomorrow (May 27) with more international flights being planned.
