Kota Kinabalu: The pedestrian bridge at Taman Tun Fuad Stephens Bukit Padang has been closed to the public and will be replaced with a new one after it is found to be dilapidated and unsafe for use.
“Work to upgrade the bridge will be carried out as part of the Sabah Botanical Garden Development Project which has been approved by the Federal Government,” said Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, Sunday.
She said this in response to photographs of the park’s recreational amenities that were recently distributed on social media as a result of concerns from park visitors over the dilapidated bridge.
She said the project will also feature the development of a plaza, walk paths, water platforms, public restrooms, a botanical centre, and other amenities around the park’s lake.
The contractor appointment is expected to be on July 2022, with a time frame of two years’ work on site and upgrading works expected to be completed in 2024.
The City Hall of Kota Kinabalu (DBKK) will also beef up security by erecting temporary barrier in restricted areas.
Meanwhile, DBKK will continue to repair further damages while considering the safety of park visitors and the available allocation capacity.
Visitors should always be attentive when utilising public facilities in Taman Tun Fuad Stephens, and pay attention to any DBKK notices.
