TAWAU: A 15-year-old student was killed and three others were injured when their motorcycles collided while participating in a “guess the motorcycle speed” activity at Km 23, Jalan Merotai, around 9pm, on Wednesday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said they received information on the accident at 9.15pm.

“Preliminary investigation showed there was a speeding activity at the location involving four men, including two non-citizens, aged between 15 and 20.

“There was a collision between them which resulted in the death of the victim and three of his friends slightly injured,” he said.

He said a Covid-19 test on the deceased revealed he was positive.

“Further investigation revealed that three of the motorcyclists, including the victim, did not possess a licence.

“The three injured victims are currently detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to assist in the police investigation,” he said.
