KOTA MARUDU: The body of 10-year-old Elzanatira Asod, who went missing after being washed away by currents in Sungai Kg Melangkap Darat, was found on Saturday.

Her body was discovered around 11.30am, seven kilometres from where she went missing on Friday.

Firefighters rushed to the location after being notified at 6.04pm on Friday, according to Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Rony Sikawan.

The girl was crossing the river to return home from her farm when the currents swept her away at 4pm, according to preliminary findings.

At 7am, a search and rescue operation was initiated along the river, and the team was able to locate her trousers two kilometres from where she went missing.

Her remains were found by villagers together with help from the firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force and Rela at 11.15am.

The operation ended at 12.30pm and the body was handed over to the police for further action.
