
Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old contractor, charged with his former reality TV cooking show finalist wife in the murder of their maid, has filed an application for bail at the High Court here.
Mohammad Ambree Yunos @ Unos’ counsel Ram Singh, in informing Judge Leonard David Shim on Monday on their application, said the notice of motion for the applicant be granted bail pending disposal of the trial at the High Court, affidavit in support and the certificate of urgency had been served on Friday.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammed Ali Imran for the respondent applied for some time to file a submission affidavit in reply to oppose the application.
Ram also applied for some time to file a supplementary affidavit on certain issues.
Leonard fixed June 8 for hearing of the motion.
He also directed the respondent to file the Affidavit in Opposition by May 17, and for the respondent to file written submission by May 24.
The applicant was directed to file the supplementary affidavit by May 17.
On Dec 29, 2021 Ambree and his engineer wife Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong, 33, were charged at the Magistrate’s Court with the murder of one Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin, 28, between Dec 10 and 13, 2021 at a unit in Amber Tower, Lido Avenue, Jalan Lintas Lido, Penampang.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code and read together with 34 of the same Code, carries the death sentence, on conviction.
No plea was taken from them as their plea would only be taken once their case was transferred to the High Court.
On April 26 this year, Etiqah was granted bail by the Court of Appeal, which stated in their decision that they found merits in her application for bail and special circumstances justifying the exercise of its discretion to grant bail.
Etiqah was granted bail of RM30,000 for security to be deposited at the Magistrate Court with one local once surety, surrender her passport and all travel documents to the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate Court, and report to police station in Penampang on the first Monday of every week at 12pm.
Their case at the Magistrate’s Court would be mentioned on May 17.
Together with Ram were counsels Kimberly Ye and Chen Wen Jye.
