Agong, PM urge M’sians to maintain Covid-19 vigilance in Hari Raya address

KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob urged Malaysians to remain vigilant regarding their health throughout the Hari Raya Aidilfitri season, as the nation returns to in-person celebrations for the first time in two years.

In his televised Hari Raya address, the Agong called on the people to observe good health practices during the festive season to break the chain of Covid-19 infections.

The king reminded Malaysians not to be complacent even though the country had recently announced its move to enter the transition into the endemic phase of Covid-19, advising all to abide by government advisories on the matter.

He added that the new phase appears to be the light at the end of the tunnel for the nation, having endured the battle against the virus over the past two years.

The Agong also said the transition was a result of the country’s effort to achieve herd immunity via the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“We have gone through many obstacles and challenges in our nation’s fight to break free from the shackles of Covid-19.

“Going forward, Malaysians must carry on with this momentum by continuing to practise good healthcare and comply with the government’s advice and recommendations.”

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri, who spoke shortly after the king, said the pandemic had made Malaysians reflect upon themselves.

“However, behind all trials and tribulations faced, the Keluarga Malaysia has shown the strength and resolve to face the challenge.

“The Keluarga Malaysia solidarity has been the basis of the government in focusing on leading the nation’s recovery, so that the people can return to their normal lives through many strategies that were planned.”
