IT has been almost three years since the controversial (to say the least) ending to the mega-hit fantasy epic Game of Thrones, and we will not have to wait that much longer for the prequel series House of the Dragon.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and tells the story of House Targaryen when they dominated the continent of Westeros – though this show will explore the beginning of their downfall, among other topics.
The teaser rightly foregrounds the characters, which is what made Game of Thrones into the success it was, before it became preoccupied with epic scale and massive battles to the detriment of the story. There seems to be the satisfying cocktail of family conflict, political infighting, and human drama.
And dragons, of course.
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans, among many others.
The ten-episode HBO Original drama debuts same time as the US on Monday, August 22 on HBO GO. – The Vibes, May 6, 2022
