Eight penalised for drug offences

Kota Kinabalu: Eight people were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here for committing various drug-related offences.

Seven of them – Hamizan Jafry, Hardeh Matni, Sufardi Razak, Rajau Marinda, Jailon Dringal, Rosli Japar and Mahani Sikin – pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to taking syabu at different locations here and in Penampang between April 3 and May 5.

Sufardi and Mahani were fined RM2,300 or seven months’ jail each, Rosli was jailed two months and fined RM1,500 or three months’ jail while the rest were handed seven months’ jail each.

The seven had committed an offence under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail on conviction.

Meanwhile, another man, Jildo Mairin, was fined RM3,000 or 11 months’ jail for having 0.36gm of syabu.

Jildo admitted to having the drug at 2.05pm on Dec 5, last year in Inanam.

He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.

In another case, a man was charged with having stolen properties.

Md Mardisyah Md Din was accused of having the stolen items – various old foreign currency banknotes, two wristwatches and one bear claw belonging to one Sanno Paul at 3pm on April 2, 2017 at a house in Kg Sembulan Tengah here.

Mardisyah claimed trial to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

The court set June 28 for pre-trial case management and released the accused, who was represented by counsel Nelson Angang, on extended court bail.
