
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court Thursday for shoplifting.
Md Syafik Amir Sham, 22, was accused of stealing a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label Blended Scotch Whiskey 750ml worth RM210 at the Bataras Hypermarket, Putatan at 2.40pm on June 3.
However, no plea was recorded from Syafik who appeared before Assistant Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi after the charge was read to him.
The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction.
Rita set June 14 for mention of the case for Syafik’s plea to be taken before a Magistrate and released him on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties.
In another case, a 25-year-old man was charged with keeping stolen properties.
Md Irwan Hamid was accused of having the stolen items comprising a laptop, a hair iron belonging to one Nor Shafika Logandon and three watches, a speaker, an Air pod, three handphones, two electronic cigarette, two spectacles, a power bank, a wallet, five bags belonging to one Ellmy Logandon.
Irwan, a restaurant worker, allegedly committed the offence at 10.30pm on May 31 at a five-foot-way of a shop next to Edwin Saloon, Api-Api Centre.
No plea was taken from him.
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.
Irwan, who has no valid identification document, was ordered to be further remanded pending mention of his case on June 14 for his plea to be taken.
