It’s apparently been normalised in Asian culture for parents to not apologise to their children. Most older parents may feel like it is beneath them and shameful to admit their mistakes and apologise to their kids.

But that shouldn’t be the case at all!

The Women’s Centre for Change (WCC) Penang has, thankfully, shared reasons as to why parents should learn to apologise to their children.

They wrote, “Parents find it difficult to admit their mistakes because they think that apologising equals weakness. Here are some reasons why saying ‘sorry’ to your kids is not a weakness.”

WCC explained that admitting your mistakes to your children and apologising can:

  • strengthen the bond between parent and child.
  • show them that everybody makes mistakes.
  • teach them to take responsibility for their actions.
  • show growth in emotional self-awareness.

So, please do not hesitate to admit your mistakes in front of your kids and to say you’re sorry to them, for you will not only be showing emotional growth as an individual but you will also be teaching your children to be better people!
