Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo dedicated a goal to his mother in the stands as Portugal beat Switzerland in an impressive 4-0 display.

Ronaldo was the star with two first-half goals, but in truth he could have had three or four as Portugal ran Switzerland ragged. There were also goals for William Carvalho and Joao Cancelo, who finished smartly from a tight angle on the right wing.

There was some excellent last-ditch defending early on from Switzerland but it was called upon all-too often as the Swiss struggled to cope with Portugal's forwards.

The visitors growing frustration was apparent from some cynical tackling late on, which culminated with Breel Embolo's booking in the 80th minute after a poor challenge.
