Qumulo, the leader in data storage and management at scale, announced a radically simple process for Qumulo customers to avoid compromising time, money or business operations during necessary technology upgrades. Customers can now update their Qumulo Core® software without affecting data access or performance. Customers can simply do rolling updates on Qumulo Core without bringing the underlying compute, storage, or networking platforms offline, which improves the upgrade experience and raises the bar even higher throughout the industry. Available now for Network File Storage (NFS) v3.x, with NFS v4.x support anticipated for later this summer.

The new upgrades allow for a rolling update process within Qumulo Core, allowing for node reboots with no cluster downtime. As with other processes on a single node update, stateful queries can simply be handed off to them. Full platform upgrades update underlying component firmware and operating systems, offering administrators the choice of running the upgrade in parallel (with little downtime) or as a non-disruptive, rolling upgrade (with one node going offline & upgraded at a time).

Non-disruptive rolling upgrades give storage administrators the freedom to run upgrades during normal operating hours, instead of during off-hours, weekends or holidays.

"Our customers rely on Qumulo for speed, simplicity and competitive advantage. With this delivery of upgrades, Qumulo extended our already minimally disruptive upgrade experience to become one of the best upgrade processes and experiences in our industry," said Ben Gitenstein, Vice President of Product at Qumulo. "We deliver seamless and simple upgrades that take minutes instead of days, preventing any impact to those using the cluster."

Previously, one of the greatest challenges of large scale distributed file platforms has been the need to maintain stateful processes and data access during major updates. The workaround was planned downtime, which ultimately impacted revenue and customer/end-user satisfaction. With this release, Qumulo provides its Network File Storage (NFS) customers with non-disruptive, major updates, with a few clicks. Non-disruptive upgrades mean no downtime – no loss of revenue, no time spent restarting applications, and no disruption to end-users or to the business.

According to recent reports, over 80% of the world's data is unstructured, with nearly 90% of that data being created in the last two years. Data's value to the organisations it supports has grown in tandem with its volume. Companies select Qumulo to get the most out of their data, and availability is a big part of it. Non-disruptive NFSv3 upgrades give Qumulo customers a competitive advantage by allowing streamlined, scalable file storage and lowering data management expenses.
