Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth made a check on Lille defender Sven Botman last night.

Chronicle Live reports Ashworth saw Botman help Holland Under-21s to a narrow win over Wales Under-21s.

Ashworth rounded off his first week in charge by taking his place in the stands at Parc-Y-Scarlets in Llanelli as Lutsharel Geertruida grabbed a late winner. By that time Botman - who Newcastle are believed to have discussed a £46million offer for with Lille - had left the field, coming off at half-time.

Along with Botman, Ashworth's main purpose of his visit was because his son Zac Ashworth was in the squad with Wales.

The West Brom left-back though did not get a slice of the action for Paul Bodin's side.
