Five S’wak opposition parties will unite for GE: PBK president

MIRI – Five Sarawak opposition parties, comprising Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Parti Aspirasi, Parti Sarawak Bersatu, Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru and Parti Sedar, are forming a pact to contest as a united front in the coming general election.

“We will field one candidate from any of the five parties for each of the 31 parliamentary seats that we will contest for – seeing that our common goal is to fight for Sarawak rights and independence of Sarawak.

“The parties have agreed to not fight with each other,” said PBK president Voon Lee Shan during a press conference in Sibu.

This comes after Sarawak DAP formed its own GE15 election campaign machinery with Sibu MP Oscar Ling as its director.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), which is part of the state’s ruling coalition, had also identified possible candidates to contest in the seven Chinese-majority parliamentary constituencies.

Meanwhile, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders have been drumming up support from the community in the villages during Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri gatherings.

GPS comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu, SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak and Progressive Democratic Party.

Of the 31 parliamentary seats in the state, GPS controls 18 while the rest are held by independents (two) and opposition parties which are DAP, PKR and Parti Sarawak Bersatu. – The Vibes, June 11, 2022
