M’sian Makcik Who Sells Cakoi Surprises Netizens by Speaking Perfect Cantonese

Language may seem like something easy to learn but anyone who has tried to learn new languages before will tell you that it is a very arduous process without any shortcuts.

One aunty who sells cakoi by the roadside in Karak, Pahang has amazed netizens with her language prowess.

In the video by Shinichi Kee Soon that was posted on TikTok, he can be heard talking to the aunty in fluent Cantonese.

The back and forth has amazed many netizens which have caused the video to go viral with more than 300,000 views and 18,000 likes.

Shinichi was very curious about how the aunty could speak Cantonese fluently and another customer answered that the whole family can speak the dialect fluently. She added in a laughing voice that she is mixed.

When asked if she watches TVB, she says,

“Yes I do watch it but I learn on YouTube. However, some of the content on YouTube is wrong.”

Speaking about her clientele, she mentioned that people of all races come to her for her cakoi.

Netizens in the comments were all complimenting the aunty.

“I’m confident that she was raised by a Chinese aunty because Malay people rarely make cakoi that beautiful.”

A netizen who claims to be the aunty’s niece has said that the entire family speaks Cantonese.

“This is my aunty. My father also knows how to speak Cantonese with his siblings. All of the siblings have their own businesses including my father who owns a car workshop.”
