SABAK BERNAM, June 6 — A majority of Selangor Saring participants are found to be having high cholesterol levels, says Selangor Public Health Advisory Council committee member Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli.

He said this was based on findings from the blood test results taken during the state’s free health screening programme that began in Ijok last month.

“Other than that, we have also detected kidney problems among the participants, as their urine test results showed that the organ is not functioning well. This is followed by the human papillomavirus (HPV) test to detect cervical cancer.

“However, the screening results do not necessarily mean that they have the disease. For example, if the HPV test is positive, it does not mean they have cervical cancer, it means the person has a high risk of getting the disease,” he said.

Dr Mohammad Farhan said this when met at the Selangor Saring programme at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, here yesterday.

He added that if the test results came out positive, the participants need to undergo further diagnostic tests at the state government-sponsored hospital for confirmation.

“The Selangor Health Community Volunteer will contact the patient to help set their appointment date with a specialist.
