The Mirror says Jurgen Klopp is ready to rival Pep Guardiola this summer in the battle to land Kalvin Phillips from Leeds.

Manchester City boss Guardiola is considering a move for the all-action England midfielder after losing Fernandinho. But Liverpool manager Klopp is also understood to admire the 26-year-old and Leeds are bracing themselves for interest from both.

Leeds do not want to lose Phillips after retaining their Premier League status but realise the lure of Champions League football could be too much to turn down. Liverpool had hoped to land No.1 target Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco but he is on the brink of a move to Real Madrid.

That has forced them look at alternatives and Phillips is among them. His future is up in the air with the player failing to agree a new deal to extend his stay at Elland Road.
