Manchester United are reluctant to lose coach Eric Ramsay this summer.
Ramsay is being linked with the manager's job at Barnsley.
However, United management want the assistant coach to remain at Carrington and work with new boss Erik ten Hag.
The Manchester Evening News says he is thought to be on the shortlist to take over at Oakwell and if an approach is made United will hold discussions with Ramsay. Kieran McKenna was allowed to leave the club in December when he made his interest in taking over as Ipswich Town boss clear.
If Ramsay stays he will work with Ten Hag's assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, with the new manager now finalising his backroom staff and detailing who will be involved in running training sessions at Carrington.
