Seven years’ jail for repeat drug offender

Kota Kinabalu: A man, who took drugs repeatedly, was sentenced to seven years’ jail.

Jiffrie Taib pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to the charge against him on Tuesday.

He was found taking the drugs on May 18, 2021 and tested positive for drugs at the city police station. He has several similar convictions.

The offence, under Section 39C (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a jail term of between seven and 13 years and whipping on conviction.

The court ordered Jiffrie to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, another man was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for a similar offence.

Heryanto Kamaruddin admitted to repeatedly taking drugs on Oct 22, 2021 after his testing positive at the police station here. He also has several similar convictions.

Heryanto was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After completing the sentence, both Jiffrie and Heryanto were ordered placed under police supervision for two years.
