GEORGE TOWN – A PKR lawmaker has “advised” DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke to just “let it go” and expect Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to try and hold on to his position as prime minister for as long as he can.
Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee said it does not matter what Ismail Sabri says to Umno, as ultimately, it is the prime minister who will advise the king on the date for parliament dissolution.
“Everything hinges on that decision to advise the king – without which, the Parliament will just continue as it is, with or without the MoU.
“No doubt, the prime minister dare not say it straight to Umno members that he prefers the election at a later date, and DAP has been made a scapegoat instead,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, in a Facebook post, Loke said that Ismail Sabri’s remark about DAP disrespecting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong over the issue involving the election date may be an implicit message to his fellow Umno leaders.
The DAP secretary-general opined that his party was simply made a scapegoat, as the prime minister did not want to offend those in Umno who have been constantly pushing for an early election.
Loke asserted that he had never questioned the power of the king to consent to the dissolution of Parliament as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
The earlier suggestion for MoU 2.0 does not even have to be carried out, he said as there is no doubt that an election at a later date would be agreeable to both PH and the current government.
In order not to be shaken by an early or later election, he added, PH component parties should also always be ready rather than debating when the election should be held.
“For that, let’s just leave the decision to the prime minister, the cabinet and the king.” – The Vibes, June 6, 2022
