Tom Allan feels it was the right time to leave Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old made just one senior appearance for his boyhood club, which came in a 4-1 win over Rochdale in the FA Cup at St. James' Park. Allan played just 33 minutes in the match but was able to register an assist for Joelinton.

Speaking in an interview with Newcastle Fan TV, Allan said: I'm 22 now, if I was going to be breaking into the first team, it would've happened two years ago when I was in and around it. It's just about being honest with yourself and a fresh start is what I need now.

“I hope that's the case anyway. I think being in and around the first team for the two years that I was has definitely helped with the situation I'm in now.

"There's been some conversations with clubs but I go to Barcelona on Friday so I'm going to go there, enjoy that and then come back and sit down to see what options I have."
