UMNO stalwarts are well known for their taste in fancy branded imported watches and suits during Najib’s administration.

At the same time, there were people who made a point of “watch watching” a hobby.

Almost like bird watching they kept their eyes focused on who was wearing what and when.

Zahid, current UMNO President was at one time a favourite amongst watch watchers. He had quite a selection that he would wear to events to keep netizens talking about his collection.

But then the interest in observing who’s sporting an expensive watch slowly faded on Facebook when we were overwhelmed by the billion ringgit heist by ‘bossku’ and company.

As a result, we turned our attention towards following who got what and for how much, including the pink diamond necklace and apartments in London and New York.

However, with Ismail awarded the title of “Bapa Fesyen Malaysia” netizens are becoming more observant yet again about what politicians wrap around their wrists and what they wear to events.

For Uncle Ma’il, first it was batik shirts designed by his son in law(?) for daily TV briefings during the early stages of the pandemic.

Then he surprised everyone when he surfaced in Tokyo recently wearing a Burberry shirt priced at RM5k+ during a period when chicken prices hit the roof at home.

Netizens commented relentlessly about his taste in clothes while rakyat had to pay exorbitant prices for their chickens.

Anyway, we thought it would end there. But a few days ago many Facebook users uploaded a photo of our man from Tasik Bera sporting a real fancy watch worth RM292.553, almost 300k!

They traced the watch he was wearing to a brand known as Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 44MM Blue Cameo 26400S0 2020. (Plus RM1,348 insured shipping to Malaysia).

He has the audacity of wearing that watch while announcing the possibility of reintroducing GST at a time when the rakyat is grappling with the spiralling cost of food.

That just confirms our belief about a UMNO man and Malay politicians in general.
Once they have the means they would go for expensive imported watches (Swiss), cars (German), suits (French), furniture (Italian), shoes (Italian), workout outfits (US), Golf clubs (US) and even wives from overseas.

The last choice is more evident amongst Kelantan based PAS Assemblymen who prefer to cross over the Golok River to Southern Thailand for their second wives.

It goes to show that Malay politicians are just a group of ostentatious people with nothing to show but their newfound material wealth.
