CHISINAU, June 12 — More than 95,000 people crossed the border checkpoints of Romania in the past 24 hours, of which over 9,000 were citizens of Ukraine, reported Sputnik, quoting the Romanian Border Police on Sunday.

“In the past 24 hours, 9,323 citizens of Ukraine crossed the border checkpoints, with 5,136 Ukrainians entering the country from the Ukrainian side (24 per cent more than the day before), and 1,083 from the Moldovan side (an increase of 5 per cent), the rest went further,” the press service of the country’s border police said.

More than 1.1 million Ukrainian nationals have entered Romania since the start of hostilities in Ukraine.

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine after the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk appealed for help in defending themselves against Ukrainian forces.

In response, the EU rolled out a comprehensive sanctions campaign against Moscow, which includes airspace closures and restrictive measures targeting numerous Russian officials and entities, media and financial institutions.
