Departing Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez has decided against a move to Aston Villa.
The Athletic reports Villa were weighing up a move for manager Steven Gerrard's former Liverpool team-mate, but the free agent is now unlikely to return to the Premier League.
The 35-year-old was said to have been in contact with Gerrard since January, but the former Barcelona ace has offers to consider elsewhere too.
Gerrard's forward line is already stacked with the likes of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings competing for a starting spot, while Keinan Davis and Cameron Archer - who have both enjoyed sensational loan spells in the Championship - are also set to return to the club this summer.
At Villa, a full-back, centre-back and another midfielder are on the club's radar, while a striker could also walk though the door if the right player becomes available.
