Philip’s trial set for June 21-22

Kota Kinabalu: The continuation of the trial of a technical head for 2021 Unduk Ngadau competition, charged with four counts of molesting a 2021 State Unduk Ngadau contestant, has been set for June 21-22 this year.

The date was announced at Philip Among’s (pic) trial continuation when the hearing was postponed last month due to the health condition of the first witness and one of Philip’s counsel.

The trial started on April 12 this year for three days before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie and so far the prosecution had called one witness in the hearing.

Phillip, 52, faces four counts of molesting the Unduk Ngadau contestant on May 19, 2021 at 2pm, 3.30pm, 9.45pm and 10pm, respectively at a staircase next to Ever Best Photo in Asia City, in Studio Darvel Bay Borneo Holidays Sdn Bhd in Asia City, in a moving vehicle while on the way from a dinner place to an old office in the city and in an office in Metro Town.

He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments, on conviction.

Phillip, had on June 10, 2021, claimed trial to the charges.

In another case, a man was jailed five years and ordered given a stroke of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Mohd Riduwan Jumat who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

He was found taking the drug on Oct 8, 2021 after testing positive at the police station here.

Mohd Riduwan has several conviction records for taking the drug.

The court ordered Mohd Riduwan to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and put under police supervision for two years after completing his jail sentence.
