Suspect might have mental problems, allegedly threw mum’s body parts in tank: cops

KUALA LUMPUR – The gory discovery of a woman being chopped into 15 pieces and thrown into a sewage tank was a result of a stench emanating from her house in Taman Kerian, Parit Buntar.

Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told reporters in Ipoh that officers found the sewerage area behind the house was covered with wooden planks.

“When the planks were removed, the forensic team discovered the body parts. We also found several murder weapons at the site,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

The police believed that the 42-year-old suspect hit the victim’s head, causing her to collapse before mutilating her body.

Mior Faridalathrash said the suspect could be suffering from mental problems.

The victim was reported missing days ago by her daughter after she could not get her on the phone for their daily calls.

The daughter told the police that the suspect had answered the phone, saying the victim had yet to return home.

Mior Faridalathrash said police visited the house after a report was lodged, only to find the place a mess, mostly filled with recyclables.

He added that yesterday, a neighbour called the police complaining about a bad smell coming from the house.

The suspect, believed to be the victim’s son, will be remanded today as the case is investigated for murder.

Earlier, Mior Faridalathrash said the victim was identified as a 68-year-old woman who lived with the suspect for the past 12 years after her husband had died.

Initial investigations found that the incident was due to the suspect’s dissatisfaction over the division of his late father’s estate.

The police also confiscated a machete, two knives and items believed to be used in the alleged murder. – The Vibes, June 5, 2022
