A Teacher

He took up a job as a teacher to rebuild his life after the war. Little records are found of this period though.

Communist Uprising

It was unfortunately a short-lived peaceful period. Unbeknownst to most of the world, the international communist movement known as Comintern (Communist Internationale) had issued a decree following the speech of Soviet leader, Andrei Zhdanov at the Calcutta Youth Conference in 1948 to begin the global revolutionary uprising. (There are two main schools of thought on how did the communist decided to take up arms, one being the instructions given by the Comintern, while another points to a localised desire for emancipation. There is, however, a third possibility, where the uprising was triggered by the British themselves so they can use the communist as a means to repress the rise of left-wing politics).

Communist Uprising in Sarawak

In Sarawak, the communist had been operating under the banner of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Sarawak (PGRS) and Parti Rakyat Kalimantan Utara (PARAKU). The cadres were largely recruited using Clandestine Communist Organisation (CCO) Though the nomenclature is possibly something that the Sarawak Constabulary had come up with.

From a Teacher to Police Officer

Somehow, Sarawak Constabulary found out that he was a former MPAJA guerrilla and they approached him. Perhaps, he knew how a communist thinks. And perhaps, that he knew the implications to the masses if were allowed to run rampant, as his own family had to suffer the fate to move to a land so far away, coupled with his combat experience fighting under their banner, and perhaps his relatives in Seremban had informed him that the communist back in Seremban was still hunting him. In fact, many of the civilian victims of the communist uprising in Darurat were former MPAJA members who refused to join their cause and their unlucky family members.

And he decided to join the Sarawak Constabulary, he found that he excelled at that. He eventually made his way up to be Sarawak's Chief of Police.

Service with Royal Malaysian Police Force

When Malaysia was formed, Koo’s service was transferred to the Royal Malaysian Police Force. It was here he had later made acquaintance with (later Tan Sri) Yuen Yuet Leng. A friendship was struck that would later be played out in a very tragic way.
