Arsenal boss Unai Emery admits he was hurt by the criticism following Monday's defeat at Sheffield United.
Emery has faced accusations that his team are no different to the one he inherited from Arsene Wenger, almost 18 months into his reign.
Asked whether all the flak had hurt him, ahead of Arsenal's Europa League tie against Vitoria Guimares, Emery said: "Yes but last year, for example, I remember one very similar system - 5-3-2 - a different team but defensively very strong when they start winning the match.
"Last year we lost 3-0 against Wolverhampton and in 30 minutes we lost all our balance mentally.
"On Monday the first penalty [for shirt pull on Sokratis] was clear, the best chances were for us. If we scored one goal maybe the match is different.
"But they scored it because we conceded a lot of corners for them. We also created a lot of corners, 12, but in the balance we lost with the seven corners we conceded.
"Then we tried and we had chances to score and to draw at minimum but we didn't do it. Our response could be better.
"But it was a good attitude, good mentality and improve individually and collectively, to do better and to anticipate one good result for us.
"In my career it's normal to have in different and difficult moments, criticism for our work and my job. We are in one point of view. The supporters' opinion, we need to accept that.
"The next match to show that improvement."
