Manchester United are hoping to complete a deal for Sean Longstaff by Monday.
The Red Devils depart for Australasia on July 8 on their preseason tour.
The Manchester Evening News says United wanted a deal for the Newcastle United midfielder completed last month.
But negotiations with Crystal Palace over Aaron Wan-Bissaka dragged on longer than expected, leaving the club rushing to add Longstaff to their touring party.
It is also possible United's move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire could further delay Longstaff's arrival.
