On Thursday in Monaco, the centre-back collected the Defender of the Season prize before being announced as Men's Player of the Year, seeing off competition from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the accolade.
It was a special night," he said. It went pretty quick, I had to focus straight away on [the game against Burnley] and I'm glad that we took the three points."
