Liverpool have won their court case against kit partners New Balance.

The ruling leaves the way clear for a potential deal with Nike.

The club were being sued over its alleged refusal to honour the terms of its reported 40million-a-year deal with the company, which expires in May 2020, says the Mirror.

Under the terms of the deal, New Balance were entitled to renew their sponsorship if they matched the terms of any competitor's offer to sponsor Liverpool kit.

But the current European champions, who have been offered a 30 million-a-year five-year deal by Nike, argued that New Balance cannot match Nike's offer in relation to the marketing and distribution of Liverpool products.

Mr Justice Teare gave his ruling on the dispute in London on Friday morning - saying: For the reasons given in the judgement handed down the claim from New Balance is dismissed."

Daniel Oudkerk, QC, representing New Balance, said a potential appeal needed to be discussed, but was told it must have 'a real prospect of success' to be allowed - and was subsequently dismissed.

A Liverpool statement read: "LFC is pleased with the Judge's decision to rule in favour of the club following the legal dispute with New Balance.

"We will continue with New Balance for the current season, in combination with preparing next season's Liverpool kits with our new supplier.
