Aston Villa failed to land Simon Mignolet ahead of Club Brugge this summer.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper signed for Club Brugge last month.
HLN says Aston Villa were also trying to recruit the Belgium goalkeeper. Benfica and Porto were others to show interest.
But in the end, Mignolet decided to return to his home nation.
Mignolet lost his place in the Liverpool starting line up to Loris Karius, then went down the pecking order after the signing of Alisson Becker last summer.
