The Telegraph says United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has Atletico Madrid star Saul as an alternative transfer target to Bruno Fernandes.
Red Devils manager Solskjaer is eyeing a transfer for Sporting Lisbon star Fernandes this summer.
Liverpool and Tottenham have also been tipped to move for the 24-year-old this transfer window.
Both Premier League clubs have moved to distance themselves from speculation, however, leaving United free to swoop in.
However, Solskjaer's United have been looking at Atletico Madrid star Saul as well.
