Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is confident they can attract the fans back to St James' Park.

The Magpies attracted a crowd that turned out to be lower than the attendance on what was supposed to be a designated boycott against Arsenal on the opening day with just 44,157 turning out against Watford .

This was the lowest crowd since 2012 when 43,858 clicked through the turnstiles for a 3-0 win over Wigan.

When asked about the low crowd figure, Bruce said: "Look, all I can do is try to get on with my job.

"We can never take for granted the support this great club has got.

"All I can do is just hopefully going onwards and upwards with the team and the supporters, I'm sure they'll be back when we win a few games."
