Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will surpass Wayne Rooney's record goal number for England, according to Chris Sutton.

Kane went up to 25 goals with a hat-trick against Bulgaria on Saturday.

He has just under half of Rooney's record tally of 53.

Writing in the Daily Mail, former Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers forward Sutton said: "Harry Kane will surely break Wayne Rooney's England record of 53 goals.

"Kane's hat-trick on Saturday puts him on 25. Like Alan Shearer, he is a natural goalscorer. Shearer got 30 goals for England, as many as Nat Lofthouse and Sir Tom Finney.

"Looking at the other teams in Group A, Kane could pass that total by the end of Euro 2020 qualifying.

"The 26-year-old is a phenomenal finisher. His game is not based on pace. Two of his three goals at Wembley came from the spot, but the fact that Kane admitted he takes up to 50 penalties in a practice session shows how meticulous he is. "
