Bruno Fernandes prefers Manchester United over Tottenham due to the midfield crisis at Old Trafford, according to reports.
The Premier League duo are both in talks to sign the Sporting Lisbon star, with his agent Miguel Pinho currently in London to thrash out a deal.
Portuguese outlet A Bola says Fernandes finds United "sportingly more attractive" because of their lack of midfield options.
Any move will take some time should Sporting stick to their valuation of 70m, which United have refused to meet.
The Red Devils have already lost Ander Herrera to free agency, while Paul Pogba has expressed his desire to leave this summer.
Pogba is being pursued heavily by Real Madrid and Juventus
