Newcastle United have rubbished claims that Jaap Stam was offered the managerial position at the club.
Stam, who is now Feyenoord boss, told Dutch media that he was offered the job by the Magpies in the summer.
They eventually went on to appoint Steve Bruce, who is tasked with keeping them in the Premier League.
Stam told Voetbal International recently: "You have been informed, because it is correct. Newcastle United applied a few days after I signed my signature at Feyenoord. So it was not an option right away.
"I am a man of my word. It was beautiful and honourable, because the people in England apparently know what I stand for as a trainer."
But senior Newcastle United sources have told the Chronicle that such an offer was never made.
They claim no interest in making Stam their manager.
