Werder Bremen midfielder Davy Klaasen says there was one positive to draw from his time with Everton.

The former Ajax captain had a year at Goodison Park before leaving for Werder.

He told Spox: It also had something positive, because otherwise I would not be with Werder Bremen now. Moreover, I had no clear plan, because I had already fulfilled my dream: playing at Ajax.

"Everything went wrong from the start, it just didn't fit. I had a good year, got to know nice people. But it wasn't good on the sporting field.

"For a long time I had the hope that it would work out. After my first season, a new manager arrived with Marco Silva. I thought I might get a chance under him, but I was soon told that there were too many players and he didn't trust me. That was good, because it allowed me to think about the next step."
