Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos admitted frustration after their 0-0 draw with Real Betis.

Ramos ended the match in a centre-forward position as the hosts pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages, however a lack of composure in front of goal was the scourge of Los Merengues' evening.

"We have a bittersweet taste, the truth was that today was a great opportunity to become league leaders," Ramos explained in a post-match interview with Movistar.

"We haven't taken advantage of the other results.

"The team fought very hard, but in front of goal we weren't successful and we paid for that."

Karim Benzema thought Los Blancos should have been awarded a penalty for a handball, yet it wasn't given.

"Yes, it was a play determined by VAR, although it's not necessary to discuss it more," Ramos confirmed.

"The interpretation is that of the officials.

"They are the ones who make the decision."
