Liverpool are set to lose Joel Matip for six weeks of action.
The Reds were initially optimistic that the defender would recover from a knee knock sustained in the win over Sheffield United.
He featured in 1-1 draw with Manchester United on October 20 but missed Sunday's win over Tottenham.
The Evening Standard says Liverpool have become resigned to losing the 28-year-old for up to six weeks.
That would rule Matip for 10 fixtures, including the blockbuster meeting with Manchester City on November 10.
