PETALING JAYA: IOI Group executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng died last night at the age of 79.

He was due to officially retire on his 80th birthday tomorrow.

The tycoon had a humble beginning. He grew up in a rubber estate where his father had operated a food store.

Lee was the fifth richest man in the country with an estimated net worth of US$4.7 billion (RM19.3 billion), according to the 2019 Forbes Malaysia Rich List.
