Arsenal boss Unai Emery has made Granit Xhaka their permanent captain, according to reports.

The Spaniard introduced a pool system when he took the reins at from Arsene Wenger at Arsenal in 2018, and rotated between five skippers.

The five players selected were: Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Xhaka.

Three of these players have now left Arsenal, leaving only Ozil and Xhaka as candidates.

BBC Sport says Emery has decided to scrap the 'five captains' idea and just hand Switzerland international Xhaka - who has skippered the Gunners in every game so far this season - the armband on a permanent basis.
